Hingham, MA—Summer in New England celebrates light dancing on the water and painters gathering where the land meets the sea. The South Shore Art Center welcomes award winning landscape artists, the New England Plein Air Painters in a special exhibition Paint the South Shore at the Shipyard Gallery, 18 Shipyard Drive, Hingham, MA. 02043. The show will open on Friday July 8 from 6-8pm. The exhibition will be on display through August 28, 2011.

Each year, New England Plein Air Painters gather at a picturesque location, create exceptional landscapes, enjoy friendship and camaraderie, hold a fresh paint event and display the year’s top creations. The event at Shipyard Gallery promises to attract nautical art collectors and water sport enthusiasts.

The Shipyard is part of a new complex of shops, restaurants and marine yard amenities. Beautiful architecture and boatyard ambience make it a pleasant place to idle a summer day while watching light dance on the water.

“We are delighted and honored to welcome these artists to Hingham, “ notes gallery Manager, Alice Sloan. Art lovers and collectors eagerly await this annual show of quality paintings for sale by New England’s most talented landscape artists. Among the nationally recognized artists participating in Paint the South Shore exhibition include local artists Dianne Panarelli Miller, Margaret McWethy, Sergio Roffo and Marjorie Whorf joined by fello NEPAP artists T.A. Charron, Robert Duffy, Michael Graves, William G Hanson, Stapleton Kearns, Barbara Lussier, Christopher Magadini and Caleb Stone.

“What makes this show so popular is the exquisite quality, freshness, and dazzling technique that these award winning artists demonstrate in painting en plein air, or on location.” “Visitors to New England, especially at this time of year when the boats are in the water and the light dazzles the reflections, will delight in seeing these magnificent landscapes,” says Sloan.

Plein air painting is a year round activity for these artists who work in every weather, inclement included. The artists gathered in 2004 for their first paint out, at the Connecticut home of 19th century artist Rosa Peckham. The group has meet annually for a New England show ever since. “We show up for the camaraderie,” says Stapleton Kearns. “It is a time just to be with other artists who face similar challenges in their work.”

“It is an opportunity to see other artists, paint together and put aside the rest of life for a weekend. We enjoy the company and the paint talk as well as meeting the public who enjoy watching the canvas become a painting,” says Lussier.

On July 30th, NEPAP artists will gather in Hingham Boatyard for a spectacular weekend painting on the islands that necklace the South Shore and Boston. Guests will be invited to join the artist to see the work in progress. At the end of the day everyone is invited for refreshments and a sale of the “Fresh Paint” works.
